for info about RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
RCIA is the 'Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults'. A person over 18 years of age, either un-baptized or baptized in another Christian tradition & seeking full entry into the Catholic Church does so through RCIA. RCIA is a journey of faith and learning; you aren't obligated to join the Faith if you begin the RCIA process.
MARRIAGE & RCIA:
If you are currently married outside the Catholic Church, Marriage Preparation and/or validation of your current marriage is required before you can be fully received into the Church. All previous marriages (of you and your spouse), including JP or 'Common Law', will have to go through the marriage Tribunal process for possible annulment before your current marriage can be validated. Even if your current spouse isn't Catholic (or isn't converting), they will need to be active in the process of having your marriage validated in the Church, including having all of their previous marriages go through the Marriage Tribunal for review and possible annulment as well. This process is highly individual and depends upon many factors. If you are divorced but currently single, before a future Marriage may be entered into in the Church, all previous marriages will need to go through the Marriage Tribunal for review and possible annulment. We have Marriage Tribunal Advocates to help you.
Unresolved marriage issues may delay a person's entry into the Catholic Church.
