Christmas Angel Tree
With the issue of COVID19, the SMG Angel Tree is for 2021 was again being offered online to our parishioners.
Our current Mission Statement for Angel Tree is:
Through Baptism in Our Lord Jesus Christ and as Christians we celebrate His birth with Christmas.
The members of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church through our Social Ministry, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, reach out to those in need and offer assistance to parents in providing gifts at Christmas for their children.
As a community of believers who affirm the glorious diversity of God's people we offer our Angel Tree to the needy via Christmas Tree Angels.
Embracing Stewardship as a way of life by sharing our time, talents and treasure our disciples give of their time and skills to support the program and the parishioners, by selecting the Angels provide the gifts for the children.
By doing so our ministry disciples and parishioners are spreading His Glory and their joy via the parents to the children on His Birthday.
In order to be eligible to have a child on the Angel Tree, the children must be from a registered needy parishioner family or from our registered clients of our Social Ministry Food Pantry.
To become a registered client of the Social Ministry Food Pantry please call 817 274-5407 to determine eligibility. If eligible the potential new client receives an appointment for a Tuesday or Saturday visit.
Normally, the weekend after Thanksgiving the Angel Tree is set up beginning the quest enabling parishioners to pick out their own special ANGEL and shop on Black Friday.
The tree is down for Thanksgiving weekend and then back up for the last of the Angels to be taken.
However, due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the Angel Tree was displayed virtually with the PDF File attached here. Parishioners view the file and send an email to smgangeltree@gmail.com with their 1st and 2nd choices. An email was returned confirming and the angel(s) selected removed from the PDF file and a new file uploaded with a date, version number and time.
Parishioners are asked to attach the Angel with the child's information to their wrapped gift which they return by a specified date. Gifts are sorted and bagged into family groups and prepared for distribution the Saturday before Christmas. Volunteers assist in collecting the gifts, wrapping as necessary, bagging the gifts, and distributing to the families.
The Schedule of Events will be posted as the Angel Tree preparations are made.
