What is the Sacrament of Baptism?
Baptism is the sacrament of entry into the life and faith of the Church.
When are Baptisms celebrated at St. Maria Goretti?
Baptisms are usually celebrated the 2nd & 3rd Sundays of each month.
What info do I need to know before scheduling my child's Baptism?
To have your child considered for Baptism, you must be a registered and active member of our parish for at least 6 months. To be considered 'active,' please place envelopes (even if empty) in the offering basket at Mass to let Father know that you are attending Mass here. LACK OF MASS ATTENDANCE MAY RESULT IN RECEPTION OF SACRAMENTS BEING DELAYED. Faith Direct users may drop the card with their member number in the collection instead of envelopes. Anyone who forgets their envelope or card can write their name on one of the blank envelopes provided in the pews, and your attendance will be recorded.
How do I schedule a Baptism for my child?
Contact Brenda Hawley, Faith Formation Secretary, by phone at 817-274-0643 ext. 227
to request Forms and begin the process. Once Forms have been completed, and all requirements met,
a date for Baptism can be scheduled.
There are a few things we need BEFORE scheduling a baptism at SMG:
1-Baptism Registration Form - Completed by the parent(s)/legal guardian requesting the Baptism;
2-Godparent Information Form - Completed by the Godparent(s). A 'Letter of Good Standing' for Godparents who are not members of SMG, will be required from the pastor of the parish where they are registered.
3-Baptism Preparation Session - Catholic Parents must attend a baptismal preparation session. If a parent has attended this class at SMG within 5 years, it is not required again. We also accept Baptismal Preparation Certificates issued by any other Catholic Parish.

*For Baptism of children aged 7 through 17, RCIC program is required, which is part of our Youth Formation program, and normally begins enrolling in June for the Fall.
*For Baptism of adults 18 years of age and older, 'RCIA' is required, learn more by selecting 'RCIA' under the 'Faith Formation' tab.
**If you're taking Baptism Prep at SMG in order to be a Godparent at a Baptism held at another Parish, the Parish hosting the Baptism may require a 'Letter of Good Standing' in addition to the Baptism Prep Attendance Certificate. A 'Letter of Good Standing' should come from the Parish you are registered and attend Mass at. If you aren't a registered parishioner at SMG, we can not issue you a 'Letter of Good Standing' just because you attended the Baptism Prep session with us.Thank you!
