EMPLOYMENT
The Arlington Life Shelter is the only shelter in the Metroplex with a work requirement.
Job coaching, placement and education services are provided to assist the homeless in securing and retaining employment. It usually takes a homeless person in a minimum wage position at least 2-3 job changes before finding the right culture fit for long-term job retention. Shelter services recognize this pattern and support the client through initial job changes until the right match is secured.
MENTORING
The focus of the Arlington Life Shelter's children's program is to remove barriers that hinder the growth and success of each individual child.
Children at the Arlington Life Shelter with their parents receive 10 hours of tutoring and computer education each week. In addition, they participate in a therapeutic program designed to increase their personal resilience and decrease their danger of being victimized while parents may be struggling with depression, addictions or family violence.

The Arlington Life Shelter has a small window of opportunity to break the cycle of poverty with our homeless children. Every night, 25 - 30 children reside at the shelter with their parents.
Drug testing is mandatory upon entry. Those with a positive drug test are allowed to stay, but must agree to treatment. Job stability and active addiction are not compatible.

95,000 meals are served each year by 56 faith communities and corporations valued in the agency budget at $385,000. The agency spends less than $500 a year for food, and that is to buy milk for the children.
